Medical Aid Founder
Through adversity comes great strength. If ever there was a shining example of that phrase, Ms. Uma Preman is it. Having grown up in tough circumstances, Uma spent her later married years caring for a diseased husband, until she was widowed at the young age of 27. Spending a lot of time in hospitals, she realised that the poorer masses did not have adequate access to proper medical information. In 1997, she founded the Santhi Medical Information Centre, and has since worked tirelessly to serve the community. The magnitude of her effort is simply astounding: Santhi Information Medical Centre has facilitated 20,500 heart surgeries, around 108 Free Medical Camps and more than 192,000 Dialysis in a short period of time.
